Descriptions

General description

Species with medial black facial vitta from facial prominence (or from above facial prominence) down to upper mouth edge, basoflagellomere broader than long, abdominal terga entirely pale-haired; metatarsi with basitarsus distinctly longer than tarsomeres 2-4 combined (Speight and Sarthou 2009).

Associations

Flowers visited by adults: Dianthus (Speight 2010).

Cyclicity

Flight period: beginning of September to mid November (Speight 2010).

Distribution

Species found in central and southern Spain (and Mallorca), southern France, Italy and Greece, plus Crete (Claussen and Lucas 1988; Speight 2010).

Ecology

Adult settles on stones and the bare ground of forest paths, in the sun (Speight 2010).

Habitat

Preferred environment of the adults: forest; ancient / overmature thermophilous (Quercus pubescens) and evergreen oak (Q. ilex / Q. suber) forest; also mesophilous beech (Fagus) forest (Speight 2010).
