Taking place for the first time in the Neotropical Region, the ISS9 will be held in Curitiba (Brazil) from 28th August to 1st September 2017. We are sure it will be an excellent opportunity to establish new research collaborations and share experiences on Syrphidae. The following information is also available at http://syrphidaesymposium.wixsite.com/iss9-curitibabrazil LOCATION Curitiba is located in the South Region of Brazil and most of its inhabitants are of northern European descent. It is an important cultural, political, and economic centre in Latin America. Although Curitiba holds a population of 2 million inhabitants, it is managed to preserve its mid size town atmosphere. It was founded by the Portuguese over 300 years ago and settled by immigrants (such as Italians, Polish, Ukrainians, Germans, and Japanese). The name "Curitiba" comes from the Tupi words kurí tyba (= many pine seeds), due to the large number of pinecones of Paraná pines (Araucaria angustifolia) occurring in the region by the time of its foundation.
TRANSPORT If you are coming to Curitiba from abroad, there are flights from all the larger capitals (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília and Porto Alegre). The easiest way is to take a flight to São Paulo (São Paulo International Airport - GRU) with a connection flight to Curitiba (Afonso Pena International Airport - CWB). Note that São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are both served by two airports and some flight connections can occur in a different airport. Avoiding the transfer from one airport to another is a good choice! The Symposium venue is located about 28 Km from the CWB airport. You can find in the following link directions from CWB to the La Dolce Vita Hotel. If you are coming by car, you only have to follow your GPS system and use the La Dolce Vita Hotel address: La Dolce Vita Hotel, Estrada Velha de Joinville, s/n - Rio de Una, Tijucas do Sul - PR, 83190- 000, Brazil. Transport from Curitiba to La Dolce Vita Hotel and vice versa will be organized. A bus will leave from Curitiba at 9 AM on August 28th and will come back to Curitiba on September 1st around 7 AM. We ask you to provide your arrival details and to let us know if you will need place in any of these two buses from Curitiba to La Dolce Vita Hotel and vice versa. MONEY The currency in Brazil is the Real (R$). For those of you who need to pay the registration fee, or the
excursion fee, we kindly ask you to pay this in Reais. We cannot accept foreign currency.
