Descriptions

Diagnostic description

Since Peck (1988), the practice of regarding Chamaesyrphus as a subgenus of Pelecocera has been introduced. This practice was followed by Thompson and Rotheray (1998) and has been supported by Ståhls et al (2004). Indeed, recognition of Chamaesyrphus as a separate genus seems to have little justification or utility.
