notes
Lair et al 2022: Based on unpublished notes from F. C. Thompson, Chamaesyrphus escorialensis (Czerny & Strobl, 1909) is the valid name for Chamaesyrphus caledonicus Collin, 1940. For the sake of stability, we have chosen to follow the most common usage, and refer to P. caledonica, pending published justification of this suggested synonymy.
