Some authors have recognized two species of Baccha, B. elongata (Fabricius) and B. obscuripennis Meigen, based on the presence/absence of dust on the frons of the male. Males of B. obscuripennis usually lacks dust on the frontal triangle (van Veen 2004).

This taxon might be a junior synonym of Baccha elongata.

Larvae have been reported feeding on several aphids species (Aphididae) (Rojo et al. 2003).
